If you are having issues sending or receiving messages using BlackBerry Messenger (BBM), you will want to read this article. I will explain how BBM works and why this may cause issues with the app.

BlackBerry Messenger uses your data plan to send and receive messages. If you are in an area where data is not available, then your messages will not be sent until you are back in an area where data coverage is available. The same goes for the person you are sending the message to. Even though you may have data coverage, the other person may not. If they don’t, then they will not receive the message until they are in an area where data is available.

The problem I have run into is my phone showing I am in an area where I have data coverage, yet my data won’t work. A quick fix to make sure your data is up and running properly is to disable your radio (network coverage), and re-enable it. This can also be fixed with a battery pull, but I don’t like waiting 5 minutes for my phone to restart.

Below are the steps to disable and re-enable your radio signal:

Go to “Manage Connections”

Click on “Turn All Connections Off”

Click the check box next to “Mobile Network” after you see the red X appear to the right of it.

That is all! Give it a second to connect back to the network and your data *Should* be working now. If that doesn’t fix it, try a battery pull. If the data is still not working after that, I would call your carrier and see what the issue is.
